Root Canal Therapy
Grand Terrace

Root canal therapy, often shortened to just a “root canal,” is a specialized dental procedure designed to save a tooth that is severely damaged and has become infected. In Grand Terrace, this treatment is a common solution for patients experiencing significant tooth pain or sensitivity, often caused by deep cavities or trauma to the tooth.

The root canal process involves removing the infected or damaged pulp from the inside of the tooth, cleaning and disinfecting the area, and then sealing it to prevent further infection. This not only alleviates pain but also preserves the natural structure of the tooth, preventing the need for extraction and maintaining your overall dental health.

Why Should I Get Root Canal Therapy?

If you're experiencing persistent tooth pain, sensitivity to hot or cold foods and beverages, or swelling around a tooth, root canal therapy might be the solution you need. This procedure is crucial for saving a tooth that would otherwise require extraction.

By preserving your natural tooth, you maintain your natural bite and avoid the complications that can arise from missing teeth, such as shifting of surrounding teeth and jawbone deterioration. Root canal therapy can also effectively relieve pain and restore normal function to your tooth, allowing you to bite, chew, and speak comfortably.

Preservation of Natural Tooth

By opting for a root canal, you can preserve your natural tooth structure. This helps maintain your smile's aesthetics and functionality, preventing the need for costly dental restorations.

Prevention of Further Infection

The procedure effectively cleans and seals the tooth, preventing bacteria from causing further infection or damage. This proactive approach safeguards your overall oral health.

The Root Canal Treatment Process

Diagnosis and Preparation

Diagnosis and Preparation

The first step in root canal therapy involves a thorough examination and diagnosis by Dr. Dilpreet Singh at Grand Terrace Dental. Using advanced imaging technology, the extent of the infection or damage is assessed. If Dr. Singh determines that you need a root canal, she will explain the procedure in detail, addressing any concerns to make you feel at ease.

Cleaning and Disinfection

Cleaning and Disinfection

If you’re approved for a root canal, Dr. Singh will begin by cleaning and numbing the treatment area for your comfort. Once the tooth is numbed, she will create a small opening in the crown of the tooth to access the pulp chamber. Then, Dr. Singh will use specialized dental instruments to carefully remove infected and damaged tooth material and pulp. The interior of the tooth is then meticulously cleaned and disinfected to eliminate any remaining bacteria and prevent future infections. This crucial step ensures the tooth is thoroughly prepared for sealing.

Sealing and Restoration

Sealing and Restoration

After cleaning, the tooth is sealed with a biocompatible material to fill the empty canal space. This prevents bacteria from re-entering and causing further infection. In most cases, a temporary crown is placed over the treated tooth to protect it from damage. You’ll need to come back for another visit with Dr. Singh to be fitted for a permanent tooth-colored crown.

The new dentist did not disappoint. Dr. Singh is skilled and knowledgeable. He quickly and accurately diagnosed my unique problem and corrected it promptly. I am grateful to have a good dentist close to home. The staff is helpful and friendly. Definitely sticking with this dental group.

This was my first time here at this dental office & it was an overall great experience! I was nervous of course (who likes to go to the dentist lol) but the doctor made me feel comfortable & he reassured me that I had nothing to be nervous about. He was gentle, patient & compassionate. I was very impressed on how quick he pulled out my top wisdom teeth & how the day went smooth. All of the staff members were friendly & great listeners!! I definitely recommend this place, especially if you live in GT. 👍🏼😌 this is my new dental go to!
